If implemented as intended this could be a great move for encouraging children to adopt activities that utilise what I call a Math Mindset.
Math Mindset: 1) Thinking Logically, 2) The Ability to Critically Analyse a Situation, 3) Assigning an End Goal & 4) Planning out Incremental Steps to Reach the End Goal.
Chess is also an exceptionally good way to foster concentration skills and patience in a world where we are subconsciously taught to seek instant gratification and quick answers. The ability to concentrate, plan and focus is not only a vital Math skill but the hallmark of a successful person.
There are loads of ways to get your children involved in Chess, you could find a local Chess club, ask about Chess opportunities at your school or local library, or search free Chess apps and websites on the Internet.
